The Tabloids dubbed her ” Lady Mechanika,” the sole survivor of a mad scientist’s horrific experiments which left her with mechanical limbs.
Having no memory of her captivity or her former life, Mechanika eventually built a new life for herself as a private investigator, using her unique abilities to solve cases the proper authorities couldn’t or wouldn’t handle. but she never stopped searching for the answers to her own past.
Set in fictionalized steampunk turn of the century England, a time when , magic and superstition clashed with scientific discoveries and inventions, Lady Mechanika is about a young woman’s search for her own identity as she solves other mysteries involving science and the supernatural.
Upon reading the first issue of Lady Mechanika I was rather surprised how much I got into it. By the end of the first issue I was already wanting to read more. It’s been a while since I got into a comic like that. Lady Mechanika packs action, the supernatural and elements of mystery. Which I really do enjoy in anything I read.
Within the first issue Lady Mechanika starts her hunt for a very rare kind of demon who is part Mechanical like her. she comes across this “demon” they battle at first he seems aggressive at first glance but is really just a misunderstood creature who is hurt and hungry scavenging for food after it’s abandoned by it’s Master. The demon who ends up recognizing Lady Mechanika saying, “You named me” and “We Share the same Master” as she conversed with him she starts to learn that her and the demon have things in common. She starts to learn where she comes from but before the Demon is able to utter who their Master is, a group of religious gun toting men extinguish the seemingly harmless demon, Which Lady Mechanika dubbed “Little One, aka Licky” right in front of her before he got to finish telling her of her origins. Furious Lady Mechanika starts kicking ass and taking names later.
In conclusion I would definitely recommend this comic series by Joe Benitez and I look forward to reading the whole series and reviewing it by each issue. It has all the elements that grabbed my attention. Made me want to read more which I intend to. So if you like a kick ass female who’s a supernatural private investigator set in England during the steampunk era, with mystery, action and supernatural elements then this is a series for you. I highly recommend it. Looking forward to issue 2.
