Spoiler-Free Review:

John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction Vortex series is a sci-fi horror comic series, each Volume having eight comics with 32 color pages, and then released as a paperback. Vortex 2.0 series follows the events that occurred in the Vortex 1, so it is highly recommended to read the Vortex 1 Trade Paperback to know more about the past events, and the depth of character backstories. If you start Vortex 2.0 afresh, it is a story of the lead character, Jake Dixon returning from a distant space mining site, and as seen in the Vortex 2.0’s Issue 1, an alien symbiotic creature has entered the facility, and is killing people. With the arrival, Jake is accused of murder, while claiming that he didn’t do it, and is locked up nevertheless. In the Vortex 2.0 Issue 1, there was some character development, and meeting familiar characters from the Vortex 1, this issue focuses on how Jake escapes the space prison, and how they end up in a space colony.

Issue 2 (of 8) of Vortex 2.0 starts off where the Issue 1 left and we see Jake Dixon, the hero from the Vortex 1, stuck in the lock up while the authorities are confused about what to make of this situation. We also see senior level officials discussing the issue with each other. In another scene, the antagonist from the first Volume briefly which adds to the suspense, and excites the readers about what might happen in the future issues. Then Anna Cheron, Jake’s former flight-mate enters the scene as she works on a plan to break Daniel out of the jail without him knowing it. With some light humor added in the form of dialogues, and a funnily talkative jail officer who is well mannered makes things pretty fun to read. Jake, and Cheron also meet a prisoner lady who joins them on their journey out of the current space location as she is well acquainted with the location, and this part of the space. There are some surprisingly shocking scenes, horror, action, and finally the issue ends when Jake, Cheron, and their newly found friends arrive at a new space colony, but nothing seems simple as they might have landed in a new trouble which we’ll discover in the Issue 3 (of 8) of Vortex 2.0

This comic is well illustrated as the characters feel realistic, and the lighting along with the action feels life-like. There’s blood, and gore for the horror fans with some nudity in a non-sexualized way. The language used is mild, and the dialogues are to the point. A treat for horror and sci-fi fans alike.

Overall, the John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction Vortex 2.0 Issue 2 (of 8) is a scary, fun, occasionally funny, and entertaining sci-fi space horror action adventure comic which delivers a great value as it has an interesting story, like-able characters, shocking visuals, and fascinating future space world that keeps the readers intrigued till the end!
