Spoiler-Free Review:

John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction Vortex 2.0 is a futuristic sci-fi space horror comic series in which we follow the story of Jake Dixon who had returned from a dangerous rescue mission that almost killed him 20 years ago, now, he is in a different world where humans have started using the same dangerous alien substance to cure diseases despite knowing the dangers of an uncontrolled alien inside a human body. Accused of several murders & insanity, Jake was imprisoned in a space colony far away from Earth but that changed when his former crew-mate Anna Charon helped him to escape. Along the way, they met a bunch of space alien enthusiasts (& conspiracy theorists) who seem to be curious about Jake’s history, and the current alien threat. In order to solve the mystery & prevent a potential alien invasion on human colonies, together they decide to go back to the dark mining space colony where the nightmare began. Issue 4 is a 32 paged fully colored comic book that shows the ordeal of obtaining the ship to reach the long abandoned alien infested mining colony, for some clues about the aliens, and also shows scary aliens in various scenarios.

The horror comic is filled with scary visuals, from the start to the end. In between, there are some well-illustrated action scenes, showing how difficult it was for the team to get a ride to the space mining colony. The dialogues are brief, and to the point. Issue 4 starts and end on a high note. With many twists, and revelations making the readers feel amazed, and shocked. The story shows the team work, and courage of everyone involved, whether it be Jake & his friends or the forces trying to capture Jake because they’re thinking of him as a murderer. The biggest achievement of this series is that it has several stories aligned together which get revealed slowly, and at the right time. The ending shows the excellent story-telling skills of the team behind this comic book which makes the readers eager for the next issue as the content satisfies them, but the twists make them want to know more about the next thing happening in the story, and the characters.

Overall, John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction Vortex 2.0 Issue 4 once again delivers a futuristic space horror story that feels very real, and very scary. The realistic illustrations amplify the effect of shocking visuals to deliver a story that’s as thrilling, and entertaining as a big budget Hollywood Space horror movie.
