Spoiler-Free Review:
John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction Vortex 2.0 Issue 6 of 8 is a sci-fi horror featuring a distant future where humans have travelled to other galaxies and found alien substances that changed the fate of the human race.
Jake Dixon survived the rescue mission gone wrong at a space mining colony. Back on Earth, he accidentally brought the alien substance with him, and was later on, falsely accused of murders. 20 years have passed and his former crew mate Anna Cheron forced him to break free from the prison and then they both joined a group of space enthusiast outlaws who want to know more about the mining tragedy, and the phenomenon of the alien substances or parasites which appear to be more than a magic cure for all diseases. Together they went back to the mining facility infested with alien substances. This issue explores the horrors revealed there.
The issue 6 starts off with a familiar scientist describing what happened to him during weird experiments related to alien substances. The current exploration shows the facility in a bad condition after the alien infestation happened years ago. We get to see a new form of alien infestation & human possession here, which will surely shock the readers. We also see the bravery of Ms. Faye, who has been following our protagonists to see what they’re up to. Faye was just a child when Vortex 1 series events occurred, and now working with the Earth government, she has been given the responsibility to track and arrest Jake, besides to protect his band from whatever dangers lie there. A sequence that shows care and warning of Faye’s mother about the infamous mining facility was particularly heart warming. There are bonus pages showing a preview of the next issue which suggests that the alien infestation danger has reached a new level.
The horror is very intense as the visuals of dead bodies, and blood is realistically scary yet never too gross. The alien infestation is also terrifying, and there are some surprising twists and enemies that make this comic issue end on a high note. Dialogues are well written, and to the point. Illustrations are of artistic quality that makes the characters feel lively, and the horror comes alive in all scenarios.
In conclusion, John Carpenter’s Tales of Science Fiction Vortex 2.0 Issue 6 of 8, is one of most terrifying, entertaining, and intriguing sci-fi space horror comics you’ll ever read. For anyone who likes horror, sci-fi or space, this provides a great all in one entertainment package which deserves a place in everyone’s comic collection.
