Aliens Fireteam Sci-Fi Space Horror Survival Game Pre-Launch Analysis – Not Alien Isolation 2 But Still Worth Trying Out!

Aliens have always fascinated us, and we are still trying to find life on other planets. But the horror genre usually focuses on the threat aspect of aliens. When we talk about aliens, one of the most popular franchises that come to mind is the “Aliens” franchise.  With this month’s announcement of Aliens Fireteam game, the hope for Alien Isolation 2 was again lost but the gameplay does seem fun so there’s still potential to help the Alien franchise to recover from Aliens Colonial Marines game’s mixed (and often negative) reactions. Let’s dig deeper into the upcoming game.

Announcement Trailer-

Aliens: Fireteam is an upcoming multiplayer third-person shooter game developed by Cold Iron Studios in collaboration with Disney’s 20th Century Games (Publisher). It is the first Alien game since Alien: Blackout on Jan 24, 2019 and is a standalone sequel to the original Alien trilogy. Aimed to release in Summer 2021 on the platforms- Microsoft Windows (PC), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S.

Set in the iconic Alien universe, Aliens: Fireteam is a cooperative third-person survival shooter that drops your fireteam of hardened marines into a desperate fight to contain the Xenomorph threat.

25 Minutes of Gameplay-

The gameplay is in the third person perspective which is what sets it apart from Aliens Colonial Marines and Alien Isolation, both of which had first person perspective. The movements and team based combat mainly reminds us of the Gears of War franchise, and in terms of horror, Valve’s Left 4 Dead, and World War Z games where a team of four players try to make their way through a map while fighting zombies and mutated zombie bosses. The aliens onslaught feels less like zombies and more like the Dead Space 2 or 3 Necromorph hordes which overwhelmed the player and made the action horror turn into a survival horror game as with the case in Resident Evil 2 Remake, and the classic Resident Evil 4 on the professional mode.

Hands-On –

Overall, the gameplay trailer and videos do seem to promise a lot of fun and action. What it means for horror fans is that before we get to see another Alien Isolation, we will have to bear with some experiments which are trying to get the aliens brand a broad coverage in the action horror subgenre besides survival horror. If you think you will have fun with random players online or with your best buddies or family, then you should definitely consider Aliens Fireteam. At least it’s going to keep the aliens brand afloat while we wait for the next Alien Isolation game.
