This FaceTime call will be your last…but hey, it’s funny!
Alex Magaña of ACM Official is well known as the filmmaker who makes and releases high quality horror shorts as free to watch on YouTube. The most popular being the Smiling Woman 1 starring Merlynda Sol. Last week we reviewed the horror short “FaceTime” and it focused on the scary situation of seeing your friend being chased by someone while you are in a video call with them. This remix version is a great comedy twist to the horror film!
Horror and comedy both are like two opposite sides of emotions but we often see comedy inserted into horror movies which feels more like a compulsion or a filler but this horror short feels very well synced. The earlier short film FaceTime had no humor implied but the viewers could feel that there’s a possibility due to the pizza and the overall aspect of how the antagonist behaves or finds the protagonist.
This remix is almost like a new short film as we see the two actresses (Michelle Clarke & Monica English – both not featured in the original) playing the roles brilliantly as it’s not easy to do comedy and be scared at the same time! The scenes of chase, ending and the best part being the food scenes when the protagonist is on FaceTime. The timing of the acting, music, special effects, and writing by Jed Brian & Alex Magaña make you laugh before you jump out of your seat as the ending scares you!
In conclusion, FaceTime remix is among the best examples of how horror comedy shorts should be made. It has the perfect balance of humor and horror to make it an enjoyable and scary watch for audiences of all ages. It’s free to watch on YouTube so be sure to watch it today!
