[Comic Book Review] Halloween Girl – Volume 2

Without spoiling we review, Mad Shelley Comics’ Halloween Girl Vol 2 horror comic by Richard T. Wilson and Stephen Mullan! It’s set to release on April 30th 2022 on Kindle Comics (Amazon)! Read on to know it’s a must read!

Official Synopsis:

The adventure continues for angst-ridden, teen ghost, Charlotte Williams in Vol 2 of the Halloween Girl graphic novel series. Based on characters that first appeared in ’The Halloween Girl’ film and its sister web series, ‘Under the Flowers’, Charlotte, alongside her supernatural ally, Poe, battles The Hollow for the soul of Crystal Springs – and their own salvation.

‘Death is a lot of damned work’, thinks 18-year-old ghost, Charlotte Williams, as she braves the unsettled world of the In-Between. It’s here that Charlotte finds the clues she desperately needs in her battle against diabolic, secret society, The Hollow (who took her life, and just happen to be trying to end the world!).

Returning to the ‘Bone Yard’ (aka Crystal Springs Cemetery), Charlotte meets up with her supernatural gal pal Poe, an acerbic goth who works with her to decipher the latest clues. Following a series of confrontations that continue to escalate the danger, Charlotte’s world is further rocked when The Hollow kidnap her young son, Luke. To get him back, Charlotte and Poe are forced to separate and confront their own dark pasts – and maybe, just maybe, save the world.

Following the events of Vol 1, Charlotte awakens to find herself inside a giant spider’s web inside one of the Hollow’s subterranean prisons. Or is she really? The Hollow have a knack for zeroing in on a prisoner’s nightmares, breaking their spirit – and then harvesting their souls. Can Charlotte break free in time to save herself and the other prisoners – from a fate worse than death?

Spoiler-Free Review:

Mad Shelly Comics had released a Halloween Girl volume 1 last year and it was loved by critics and fans alike. It was a fun and scary comic book for all ages featuring Charlotte- the protagonist who can see ghosts and also helps others. Halloween Girl is a popular horror movie (IMDb) starring Catherine Kustra as Charlotte Williams which explored the life after death aspect in an interesting way. Like the Volume 1, this horror comic by Richard T. Wilson in collaboration with Art by Stephen Mullan provides the same spectacular storytelling that fans love about the movie.
Volume 2 starts where Volume 1 ended. Our leading lady Charlotte is stuck in a seemingly haunted house where a Giant Spider has trapped her and she has no hope of escaping the house. Her intention was to help a child who she met on the streets. She also felt the paranormal presence in the house so she decided to investigate.
Now, in Volume 2, Charlotte’s skills and abilities are put to test as she tries to complete her investigation while also managing to not get eaten by a Giant Spider. We see many ghosts and a lot of information that tell us about the paranormal world, the antagonists and finally ending the comic on an interesting note which makes us look forward to the next Volume that has more information about the strange child which we got introduced in the first Volume and was the root of all problems being faced by Charlotte in this Volume.
The artwork, dialogues and lettering all help to deliver a clear and engaging comic book experience which is not only enjoyable but also scary. There’s no bad language or suggestive themes so this comic is good for all ages unless affected by arachnophobia.
Overall, filled with scary visuals, memorable moments, thrilling action and an inspiring protagonist like Charlotte,  Halloween Girl Volume 2 is a highly recommended horror comic experience!
